Burns, Graves Have Off Days at USATF Outdoor Nationals (6/27/09)

Both Guilderland alums didn't have their best of days on Saturday. Gered ran 1:51.23, failing to advance to the final round of the 800m, and Roland's Hayward Field experience ended with a DNF in the junior men's 10k.

Both runners had great seasons despite the disappointing finishes, and will certainly be back on the track next spring to better what they accomplished this year! Roland of course, will be back in the spotlight sooner than that, as fall begins his sophomore cross country season with Iona.

Burns Runs 1:48.75 in USA 800m Prelims to Advance to Semis (6/25/09)

Burns squeaked into the semis by claiming the 2nd to last qualifying spot (15th) this evening in Eugene. The 800 continues tomorrow night, with semis being run at 9:10 EST and being aired on ESPN!

Alumni Roland Graves & Gered Burns to Compete at USA Outdoor Championships (6/24/09)

Gered Burns ('02) and Roland Graves ('08) will be competing at the 2009 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held in Eugene, Oregon on June 25-28, 2009.

Gered is scheduled to run the 800m preliminaries on Thursday June 25 @ 5:35 PST (8:35 on the east coast). Roland will compete in the Junior 10,000 meter run scheduled for Saturday June 27 @ 6:55 PST (9:55 on the east coast).

Gered competed at last year's Olympic Trials and will be looking to better his recent PR of 1:47.07. Roland, the 2007 Guilderland Invy champion, looks to better his qualifying mark of 32:12.25.

You may spot Gered wearing an NYAC singlet and Roland sporting the Iona colors. Whatever colors they wear, we know they will be running with the spirit of the Long Red Line!

Nico Turek Sets Lofty Freshman School Record at 800m (5/29/09)

Freshman Nico Turek is proving that his future is bright with the Guilderland Dutchmen. The young standout broke the 5 year old 800m freshman school record by over a second yesterday at the Class A Sectional Meet. Turek finished 6th in the race, running 2:02.6 to better Brian Rhodes-Devey's 2004 record of 2:03.8. The company atop that frosh 800m record list is beyond respectable, as the man who held the record before BRD is the esteemed Gered Burns, who now holds a PR of 1:47.97. Keep an eye on Nico Turek...you could be seeing the development of the next great Guilderland middle distance runner.

Gates, Tapler Earn Sectional Patches as Team Finishes 10th (5/29/09)

The Dutchmen finished 10th of 13 in the Class A Sectional Meet at home yesterday. Sophomore Deshawn Gates earned his first career Outdoor sectional patch (2nd overall) with a 3rd place finish in the 400m. Gates ran a season best (I believe) of 50.2, losing by half a second to Shen's Brian Campoli. Senior Ian Tapler also brought home a sectional patch with a 3rd place finish in the 110HH (15.5). Tapler also placed 6th in the 400IH.
