Guilderland Cross Country Parent News: July 2007

Hello all!

We would like to schedule the first Guilderland Cross Country Invitational Committee meeting on Thursday, August 2, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Guilderland Parks & Recreation Office, now located at 181 Route 146 (right before Tawasentha Park on the right coming from Route 20). Our goal is to form committees for the various tasks that need to be accomplished before the kids begin their Cross Country season.

Please consider the role that you would like to play in the planning of the Guilderland Invy, scheduled for Saturday, September 15, 2007. We will need volunteers to help with food donations, preparation and coordination; parking volunteers to plan and supervise parking for the event; volunteers to coordinate the t-shirt sales; billeting and cooking; and a dynamic committee to help us with sponsorships and donations!

A few updates:

On Sunday, August 19, the kids will be getting ready for their August 20th, "12:01 a.m." practice at Guilderland High School. No, that is not a typo! Coach Oates and the Cross Country coaches have once again planned a sleep-over session at the High School to celebrate the first day (night?) of practice! As a warm-up, the Parents for Guilderland XC would like to schedule a car wash at Albany Bev Center on Carman Rd. (across from Hannaford Supermarket) during the day. We are currently working on the details so please stay tuned and mark it on your calendar!

On Thursday, August 23rd, the 2nd Annual Guilderland Cross Country Golf Tournament will take place at Western Turnpike Golf Course! The format will be an 18-hole scramble and all levels of golfers are welcome! You can sign up as a foursome or as an individual and you will be teamed up with other, fun-loving golfers (and running parents, alumni and Guilderland XC supporters). Registration begins at 8:15 with a shotgun start at 9:00 am. The cost is $100 per player, which includes tournament entry fee, prizes and a buffet in the Clubhouse at 3:30 p.m. Greens fees and cart are included in the price. Buffet only attendees are welcome to attend for a fee of $30.

If you, your business or your family would like to sponsor a hole, please call Joe Herkanham at 482-4843. The deadline to register is July 27, 2007. Please call 356-4043 to register by phone. Checks should be made payable to Parents for Guilderland X-C and mailed to Brian Doherty at 3056 New Williamsburg Dr., Schenectady, NY 12303. All tournament proceeds go to the Guilderland X-C program. Join us for a fun day of golf, a fine meal and a great cause!

Finally, from Saturday, August 25 - 29, 2007, the Cross Country team will have the opportunity to attend Skye Farms running camp, run by none other than our esteemed coaches! It is great fun, lots of running, incredible bonding and always raining (just kidding, Bob!). Make sure you talk to your runner(s) about this great camp - any questions, call Coach Bob Oates at 895-2635.
